ODVAR THE OSTRICH
Odvar the Ostrich is my name I've entered for the Jungle Games Because I sprint with great panache
I'm in the hundred metres dash
I anticipate a gentle canter
With time for tea and pleasant banter
The whistle goes, I'm in position
I look round at the opposition
There's a tall giraffe, a fat gnu
Two chimpanzees and a tiny shrew
A crocodile munching on a steak
And next to that a twelve foot snake
We all line up, then comes the gun
Father shouts out, "Odvar run!!"
So off I go, straight down the track
All my rivals dropping back
Halfway down, I'm having fun
Three quarters gone, I've reached the ton
Flat out as I cross the line
I've won the race in record time
A lap of honour should take place
A fitting end to such a race
Round the bend then down the straight
I'm headed for the exit gate
One last attempt to ease my speed
But I've no brakes when I've greatest need
Straight through the crowd, foot on the pedal
I never did collect my medal!!!
