THE DAY THE PIRATES CAME TO TEA
Shiver me timbers and pieces of eight A band of old pirates turned up at our gate They said that they had all escaped from the sea
And asked very nicely if they could have tea
Mum asked them in and sat them all down
There was eight on the sofa and ten on the ground
There was three on an armchair and we thought there's no more
But there's one on a hook at the back of the door
"Har, har,"said the Captain,"Har,har,"said the Mate
"Har,har,"said the cabin boy "Pass me a plate"
Then they started to nibble and gobble and grab
At the sandwiches filled up with fish-paste and crab
They sang of great treasures and songs of the sea
All the while they ate scones and drank gallons of tea
They all danced the hornpipe and amidst hoots and roars
They tapped out the rhythms on windows and doors
After an hour of this nautical fun
Where they munched all the sandwiches, tea cakes and buns
The captain said,"Mateys, let's give them three hips"
"Then it's time for us all to go back to our ships"
So off they departed, away from our street
Amidst shaking of hands and tapping of feet
The neighbours came out and shouted,"Hooray"
And hoped that the pirates would come back one day
